Thank you all so much for joining the SYZters of Sigma Psi Zeta at UVa during DVAM (Domestic Violence Awareness Month). Our events were all successful, and we’re grateful for the support we received from the UVa community.
Here is a summary of our events:
★ 10/1: Tabling on the Lawn
We handed out FREE cookies with domestic violence facts & purple ribbon pins to show our support for victims of domestic violence!
★ 10/7: Abduction of Eden
We learned about the heartbreaking story of a teenage girl who was kidnapped into sexual slavery and her struggle to escape the world of human trafficking.
★ 10/15: Tabling on the Lawn
Many dropped by the lawn to show that #VoicesHavePower! Many left messages for survivors, and each message was $3 donated to domestic violence awareness efforts.
★ 10/22: Self-Defense Workshop
Guests and sisters learned how to defend themselves in any situation. They were taught by instructors from Charlottesville Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!
Fun fact: we were featured on NBC News! Check out the following link for more information: http://www.nbc29.com/story/26869313/jiu-jitsu-instructor-leads-self-defense-workshop-for-students
★ 10/29: Survivor’s Guide to Relationship Violence
Survivors of intimate partner violence shared their stories of violence and survival.
Thank you all again for coming up, and keep an eye out for upcoming philanthropic events! :)
